Videos tell what really happened ...

Here we see a black man by the name of Rakeem Jones being restrained by deputies at a North Carolina rally for Donald Trump on March 9th. We assume, by the looks of this picture, that he must have been disruptive and perhaps even resisted the officers, but, no …Jones had come to the event as a protestor and was being peacefully escorted out when a 78 year old man in the audience sucker punched him in the face.

That man is John McGraw, (seen here in the red shirt and cowboy hat and in the insert) who calmly went back to his seat as the deputies surrounded and forced Jones to the ground.
No one in authority questioned McGraw and he stayed for the rest of the rally.

That could easily have been the end of the story except for multiple videos that were posted on line showing him punching Jones in the face and later, actually boasting that “we might have to kill him next time”. It was only then that McGraw was questioned and arrested by the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office and was charged with assault, disorderly conduct and communicating threats.

What is wrong with our country that we allow inequality like this to happen time and again? Why did the deputies automatically wrestle the black man to the ground and let the obvious bigot go merrily on his way? Why was no action taken until the videos made it impossible to ignore?

When questioned about this Trump replied that he knew little about it but he has been known to condone these type of actions and even boasted that he would pay the legal fees if need be.  Incredible !!

It is hard to understand how this is happening to our friends to the south. I hope for a good outcome when the election occurs, meaning that Trump will be soundly defeated.

It's such a frightening day when such things happen. I have no answers, only sadness and disappointment.

No matter how much we rant Neofascist Trump looks like the next Republican nominee. Disturbed people seem to rally to him. Some of them appear somewhat normal, at first. One of the big questions I had when I began studying history was how did dictators come to power.. Now I know...ignorance. As Charles Dickens' ghost of the future told Scrooge long ago...ignorance and want spells doom.

I blame the media, especially commercial TV and radio for this mass miseducation and mass misdirection. Also upscale professionals share some of the blame for the prevailing attitudes of snobbery towards what they call "the great unwashed" Great book out this month...'Listen Liberal.'

Trump's followers are the real 'culture of poverty.'

I have been astounded by the violence at the Trump rallies and how he incites them. He encourages his followers to punch the protesters, he will pay their legal fees and then has the audacity to say his rallies are "love fests". This is one scary man.

I know you know how I feel about the Donald and his hatred and bullying. May I suggest you read this blog post? http://joanzrough.com/on-fear-and-the-growing-call-to-wake-up/.
As said above - Disturbed people seem to rally to him. Some of them appear somewhat normal, at first. - Well said. I know only 2 Trump supporters and one exudes anger and hate, but the other seems normal until you spend some time with him and he starts to tell his story.

Thanks for this post, Ginnie. I had not seen the picture of that poor guy being drug out of the rally... I have seen the punch many times.
Trump is truly to be feared... but so is Cruz, for different reasons.

And Philip is gone, so we can't all flee to Canada!
(Wouldn't you love to hear what he would have had to say about this chaos?)

I'm happy to give a report, AC. This is from the NY Post yesterday:
Five North Carolina sheriff’s deputies have been disciplined after they stood idly by while watching a whacko Donald Trump supporter sucker-punch a black protester at a rally in Fayetteville.

Three of the Cumberland County deputies — who were not named in the sheriff’s press release — were demoted and suspended without pay for five days and another two were suspended without pay for three days.

All five officers are on probation for the next year.

I also heard about this story and the candidates response to "pay for legal fees." But that would be for the wrong person in my mind. This current state of U.S. political campaigning is a very sorry state.

Trump gives them the hope that the world will change back to a time when old white guys ruled. How sad that we are giving this guy so much time an energy. This too shall pass.
