Heartbroken ...

The unbelievable storming of the U.S. capitol yesterday was horrendous but no surprise to me. Trump, when he began his Presidency, knew very well where “his people” were and he's spent the last 4 years cultivating a loyal following of haters. As I watched the rioting and then the replays this morning it's become clear that theories of how this was possible are running wild and it, literally, makes me sick.

Why does no one seem able to pin-point or say out loud that the REAL cause at the heart of this is RACISM … simple as that. The over-coddled WHITE segment of our society is scared to death of the “browning of America” or whatever it is that they feel is depriving them of their SPECIAL PLACE here.

Who the hell do they think they are? Does no one remember that it is DIVERSITY that has made our nation what it is? The older I get the more I see that a country without world wide input will eventually fail. I know that a change in administration will not correct everything but it's a beginning. Let's hope it's not too late.

Think you are so right about the fear. I read that by 2045 whites will become the minority race. Racists use that as a building block for creating fear and new followers.
The gain in a new administration plus some wonderful tools we picked up in Georgia, plus a more aware majority as shown by the last election, maybe we can make racism unpopular and shameful as it should be. Also I have faith in our young people who don't seem as eager to judge another by race alone.

It will be a start, but it is boggling just how much they will have to do and undo.

We all hope it's not too late, but it is a very sobering thought that over 74 millions of Americans voted for Trump, even after four years in office, knowing full well everything he represents. That is the real cause for concern. The incident at The Capitol is over, thank goodness, but the deep divisions within the country are not.

Yes, and now that Trump has allowed them to be out and proud about their racism, and hatred of other religions and cultures, how do we put that back? We now realize that it's always been there, and they are emboldened. (as is obvious by their current behavior) I'm sad that I no longer believe that "we're better than this." Too many of us aren't.

I, too, have thought with the actions of this Lame Duck President it was only a matter of time until something as happened on Jan. 6th would occur. I demand accountability from the actors and the enablers.
