The “slip”pery SIGMUND FREUD …

This is a true story that I should really save for next Halloween but that’s 10 months away and who knows what might ensue before then. Besides, it’s a fun one and I want to share it now!

This is about my friend (I shall call her Sally) and her husband, a retired psychologist. They are both in their late 70’s but are still going strong and have retained a wonderful sense of humor.

Sally told me that it wasn’t long after they’d moved into their new home that their neighbors invited them to a Halloween party. It wasn’t even October but evidently this was a yearly event that everyone took very seriously. They planned months in advance and only one prize was awarded per couple. It went to the twosome wearing the most imaginative costumes.

This would have been overwhelming to a lot of people but it was right up Sally’s alley and it wasn’t long before she hit upon the idea that did, indeed, make them the winners of the coveted prize that year.

You have to picture Sally in order to get the true effect. She is quite an imposing female ... very tall, with lips painted a bright red and a voice that carries across the room (due to her poor hearing). For her costume she chose a long sleeved turtle neck sweater, tights and high heels (all in black) and, over this she wore a simple, no frills, pink silk slip. That was it.

Her husband wore a conservative black suit, white shirt and black tie; but he added a little grey fringe beard and a mustache. The headband he wore declared him to be Sigmund Freud.

And who was Mary ? FREUDIAN’s SLIP of course !!

Oh, that is excellent! Having been married to a shrink - perhaps I appreciate it more than others might - but it sure gave me a much needed laugh.
